Pleasant Surprises…

It suddenly hit me. It was completely unexpected and demoralizing — “I’m moving to Washington.” I had heard myself say that over a thousand times by now but this time it was just different. I’m not sure why; maybe because I am seriously running out of time, or maybe because I just needed to hear myself say it a thousand times. In any regard, the realization many were waiting for had come.

I am still struggling with the issue of closure and distance but I am not really getting anywhere. I have no idea what to expect or what to look out for. I just hope things work out the way I had intended them to. In the coming month, there will hopefully be a lot of updates about my travels, house hunting and electronic decor.

On a completely unrelated note, don’t we all just love pleasant surprises? It’s like finding that $10 bill in your jeans’ back pocket or getting away with the murder. It just brightens your day. I faintly recall someone once mentioning that there was no income tax in the state of Washington but I disregarded it as hearsay. However, today, I decided to double check the tax laws — lo and behold — there is no state income tax in Washington. This is definitely a pleasant surprise. Yes, it’s a terribly sad day when you are 21 years old and you are more or less consumed by real estate, mortgage and tax laws. But hey, what can you do?

This is me leaping from student to real life in 0.2 nanoseconds. T-minus 11 days.

Adieu. Navid.
