Dane Cook - Retaliation (2005)I know I should be heading to bed right now since I have a quiz tomorrow morning but I just wanted to say that I picked up Dane Cook’s latest double album Retaliation. I’m going to bed listening to this. I probably won’t actually fall asleep for hours because Dane Cook is one hell of a funny guy. I am a huge fan of stand up comedy, so it’s only natural that I go to bed wistfully chuckling to myself in the quiet night breeze.

If you haven’t heard Dane Cook, you should definitely pick up his Harmful If Swallowed; it’s a classic. This goes without saying but no stand up comedian will ever touch me like Mitch Hedberg. I miss you Mitch. ♥ I’ll report back tomorrow about this Dane Cook goodness. This is also good news since the iPod was getting dreary for lack of play.

Update 07/27/2005: The first disc opens up pretty much exactly where Harmful If Swallowed left off; this both gave me a sense of familiarity but also a terrible sense of deja-vu. However, I started to stick it out and continued on. The album and jokes are clearly Dane. They are very animated and believable. Moreso than before, there are a few instances, where I felt that a joke was played out far enough but maybe that’s part of the Cook allure. The second disc is ruckus. I thoroughly enjoyed his routine and his subtle references back to Harmful If Swallowed were much appreciated as a long-time fan. All in all, after a few more listenings, I believe this material has the potential of being equally quotable in daily conversations. This is, in fact, one of the reasons I adore Dane Cook. His first album could be pretty much quoted in any conversation and laughter would always ensue.

Adieu. Navid.
