Pimp My Computer

It took some time and definitely some effort, but I am finally done pimping out the girlfriend’s computer. She is now prouder than ever of her overhauled Flat-Panel iMac G4. What did we do to it?

• Added an External Western Digital 250gb Hard Drive (Total Storage Space: 290gb)
• Added an additional 512mb of RAM (Total RAM: 768mb)
• Upgraded to Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.1) from Mac OS X Panther (10.2.8)

And most importantly, the house was upgraded to High Speed DSL — rendering the interweb once again usable and free from the cluthes of dial-up AOL.

These upgrades have easily prolonged the life of her computer for quite some time. And ultimately, when she upgrades to a new computer all together, the external hard drive will easily follow. The RAM and OS upgrade should ensure the longevity of machine for (most probably) her sister when she is off to do her college thing.

Ultimately, I need to buy and install Microsoft Office for Mac OS X but I’m not going to buy that until September (cough employee discount cough). In any regard, that’s one big item checked off this summer’s to-do list.
