Spring Break 2005

One might assume that my last spring break as an undergraduate at “party-school” UC Irvine would be something out of this world extra-ordinary. But truth be told that this was a rather tame Spring Break with a number of eventful happenings. It should be noted that I spent the week working full time. However, there is much more to the story than that. I’ll break it down wild wild west style:

The Good

  • Spring Break (2005) Photos — If a picture is a thousand words, then you can find Brit and I’s Spring Break 2005 photos here — worthy of precisely 195,000 words.
  • 6gb Apple iPod Mini (Silver) — I don’t own anything Apple. Not even one of those cute mouse pads. Therefore, it came as a great surprise when my aunt found an iPod on the ground at the park. She came up to my cousin and I asking what it was and if it was of any value. My cousin and I looked at each other and said “Damn, it’s the new 6gb version too.” There were so many people at the park it was impossible to track down who had dropped it. I shifted through the menus to try and find a name or number in the about section but to no avail. The next day (today) I decided to call Apple. I figured if someone had registered the iPod with the serial number, I could somehow send it back or have them pick it up. But alas, Apple Support told me that they have no sort of support for returning lost iPods but, and I quote, “That is a very nice gesture.” I guess I got a new iPod. (Thanks to Meaghan for the headphones and Britni for the USB 2.0 synch cable)
  • Movies — I happened to enjoy both Sin City (2005) and Oldboy (2003). Had I had slightly more patience I would have written detailed reviews.
  • My Favorite Band @ the Coach House — Francis, Justin, Chris and Phil better known as My Favorite Band played a fantastical show on Saturday. They are going to be huge one day and I’ll be able to say that I’ve seen the drummer naked… then again everybody at the Coach House did. This band is definitely electrifying and, most impressively, they are definite performers. Once I get more information regarding their new CD release, I’ll definitely recommend it as a must-buy. And I am sure my flock of avid readers (all eight of them) shall comply.

The Bad

  • Ramona’s Accident — Britni’s 1973 v8 Chevy Camaro (named Ramona) was involved in a minor fender bender leaving her (Ramona) dented and bruised on one side. Hopefully she’ll be fixed soon.
  • Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr dies at age 67 — no matter what he did, Cochran would forever be a shadow in his own success. You cannot mention Cochran without talking about OJ Simpson. And such is the life of celebrity clientele.
  • Mitch Hedberg dies at age 37 — bar none my favorite comedian kicks the bucket due to heart failure. This was by far the most saddening event of this spring break, you know, besides being tied up and held hostage while armed robbers made their way through our home.
  • Terri Schiavo dies at age 41 — besides the political shenanigans which I care not for, Terri decided to kick the bucket after a much heated public disposition regarding the ethics of this 8+ year court battle. You can read her blog here.
  • Pope Jean Paul II dies at age 84 — the Pope’s 26-year reign came to a close which is sad for not spiritual but rather symbolic reasons. The Pope was a good humanitarian and had an uncanny resemblance to my late grandfather to boot.

The Ugly

  • We were robbed at gun point in an home invasion. You can check out what I briefly touched upon in my entry “I got blind-folded, tied up and robbed.” Basically, as the shock wears off and continues to do so, the level of trauma and anxiety really sets in. It is one of those experiences that I never want to endure again but know that I have learned so much because of it.

Spring Break? More like Death Break!

Adieu. Navid.
