Hair Art Thou?

I hate getting my hair cut. Now, I don’t hate it just because I like dancing between the fine line of rugged and scruffy versus dirty and filthy. But rather, I hesitate to cut my beautiful curly black locks because I have never left the salon/shop quite happy. The hair dressers always just seem to get it wrong. I’m not quite sure why since I really believe I posses the generic “I’m Persian and living SoCal” look — seriously at Persian events I sometimes mistake myself for someone else. I mean, is that even possible? Mistaking yourself for somebody else? Yes, the similarities are that uncanny. Anyway, I once wrote a tragic tale on how I lost six pounds of hair… but the truth is I simply prefer cutting my own hair despite after the events of that unmentionable day. Now, if you have or want really short hair there really is no problem whatsoever. You simply go to your nearest Target (c) or Walmart (c) and pick up one of those 98750423 piece hair cutting kits. You take the one clip you need, throw the other 98750422 clips away, and just get right to it.

If only things were that simple.

You see the current ConAIR (c) hair cutting system that I currently own only goes up to a clip size of #4. If you’re familiar with clip size numbers, you’ll instantly know that a #4 is really short… I’d say probably ~12mm, if that. However, I have pretty long curly hair and thus, require a system which is capable of cutting at a much higher length. Now, such a postulation, challenges pure physics. So you see if you’re hair is pretty long it becomes a physical challenge; and simply adding a bigger clip will not let you cut at a higher length. You’ll just have to either imagine it or trust me on this one. Consequently, after hours of research, the biggest clip I could find on any hair cutting system was 1″ — which although is a huge jump from ~12mm its still not satisfactory.

Finally, just before I decided to give up my hunt for the ultimate hair cutting system and simply accept my dirty nature — I ran into the Wahl 9627 Hair Cutting System (pictured left). This fourteen-piece miracle is specifically designed with a long-cut adjustable comb which can cut hair unto 44mm. I was aiming for at least 1 1/2″ or 2″ and this seems to serve adequately at 1 3/4″ plus best of all it’s cordless. I was simply overcome by joy and promptly jotted down the model # to relay the information to my better half as it serves as an ultimate Valentine’s Day gift. Yes, indeed the rate at which my hair grows is simply remarkable. And yes I am Persian and certainly do expect an affinity for hair growth but alas, sometimes it’s just ridiculous. I almost feel bad for my Indian and Pakistani counterparts who must have at least double the ruggedness.
