Shower Time Epiphanies
While I was in the shower today I had what I like to call a Shower Time Epiphany (or STE for short). I know what you’re thinking so let me quickly iterate that STEs bear no resemblance to their lexical neighbor: STDs; in fact quite the opposite is true. Generally, when you are hit with an STE you only have a short time with it before your great idea just vanishes into thin air, never to be found again. In fact, I consider STEs to be a blessing since most of my great entries spawn from the bathroom quarters (see Tales of a Young Lad Showering).
Anyway, if you’ve read this far, I am pretty sure you’re wondering “What exactly are STEs?” Well, I am glad you asked. STEs are those amazing ideas or what alcoholics call moments of clarity in which suddenly the matter in which you are pondering becomes crystal clear and pellucid. I am pretty confident most of you know exactly what I am talking about and have your own STEs to report. I am not sure about the scientific details regarding this phenomenon but I speculate it has something to do with hot water and being naked. I mean really maybe that’s just what Harvard or Yale are… a really large jacuzzi for students to intellect. Would you be surprised? I wouldn’t.
Unfortunately, these shower time epiphanies often times never actually materialize outside of the shower realm. However, it has been rumored that if you try hard enough you can bring them back out with you like a bad episode of Sliders. STEs are an important facet of world history — so important in fact — I believe almost all great ideas were conjured within the showering quarters. Think of Archimedes when he yelped “Eureka” (I have found it) when he discovered the principles of water upthrust and displacement while taking a bath, or when the Wright brothers decided to fly. These crazy ideas (and more) are only feasible when you are slightly hallucinating in the hot shower steam.
In any regard, I started this entry because I had a really good shower time epiphany. Unfortunately, while formulating this very entry my STE has disappeared into the void. I can’t remember for the life of me why I wanted to discuss shower time epiphanies. Damn. I’ll let you know if it comes back to me. In the meantime, don’t be afraid to share with us your very own shower time epiphany.
Adieu. Navid.
