The Weekend Shakedown
For most of us, summer is coming to a close. For me, I got another five weeks left — suckers. It’s funny how our school-summer relationship is a microcosm of human behavior. We’re always anxiously waiting summer during the school months but when summer arrives, we always look forward to going back to school. It’s as though we cannot be satisfied with what we have nor with what we’ve achieved. Maybe it’s the capitalistic ideal that subconsciously makes us look ahead the moment we reach the next plateau. I definitely think it’s a destructive mentality which leaves us never happy, always dull and vastly unsatisfied.
That left eye of mine has gotten a lot better. The eye drops still burn like it’s nobody’s business. It’s been said that the eye is the fasted healing part of the body. I watched a couple of movies this weekend, Exorcist: The Beginning and Amadeus. The Exorcist was good; it’s the prequel to the original movie. I thought it was very well done. It was a cross between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider (minus the hot chick). Some great references or storyline to the original, I think the writers and directors did a good job seaming both movies together. Amadeus was great as well. Amadeus is about Mozart (aka Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart). You get to hear and watch some awesome Operas. The storyline is interesting enough to make me wonder if the story is a true depiction of Mozart’s life or if it was Hollybutched.
I got pulled over Friday night at about 2am for slamming on my brakes in a residential area. I actually was being an ass and didn’t even see the cop there. He pulled me over promptly and the interrogation began. He insisted that I had been drinking or was “loaded” on something. I insisted that I had seen something scurry across the road and had slammed on my breaks in fear of hurting the innocent animal. I don’t think he bought my story, but after coherently answering all his questions and passing his sobriety test, he let me go. I think this is the eighth time I’ve been pulled over in the past two years. I can’t even attribute racial profiling to this one either. Hey, if I was a cop, I would have pulled me over too. He wasn’t an ass about it. He just wanted some answers.
I picked up a pair of tickets to a pair of concerts. On Saturday, September 18th Brit and I will be heading to Devore, CA to attend KROQ’s World Famous Inland Invasion 4. It’s an all-day event with ten to fifteen different bands. There will be a lot of good bands there, though mainly for Brit’s musical savant. We’ll have a lot of fun, I’m sure, because this thing sells out in minutes. It should be pretty nuts. I still managed to grab two tickets in the first level, plus a $20 premier parking permit because parking would be insane. Then, on Wednesday, September 22nd Brit and I will be headed to the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA to catch The Pixies perform. They are Brit’s most favorite band in the whole wide world although I will vouch that they are definitely an acquired taste.
Two Phenomenal Concerts Four Days Apart: $231.45
Laughs, Pictures and Memories with the loved one: Priceless.
Saturday night was just drinking, dancing and being silly with the girl. We played Uno (tied at one game a piece), ordering and eating pizza, putting her face in the vase (that means having some hot sex in the guest room), stopping Eric from beating the shit out of Kevin, stopping Amanda from being angry at Eric while being in the wrong, fixing their computer and listening to some gossip and a lot of music. The night ended at about two or three am, with the house partially thrashed. I did the best I could to clean things up, but this morning, Amanda and Brit did a power clean up. You know, those things you see in fast-forward on television when the kids find out that the parents are coming home early, so they need to speed clean the house, and they always get it done in time even if it meant repainting the entire living room and letting it dry and air out. The parents come home to a perfect home and perfect children. They are too inept to smell the fresh paint or notice that the couch had been replaced (Fresh Prince reference!).
I’m not entirely sure what today will entail, but I assume there will be more music, movies and Mexican food involved. That’s for certain.
Adieu. Navid.
